Chaos that has emerged now in Iraq as a result of activation of the militants, "the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (LIH), led to the emergence in the north of the country a large number of civilian refugees. Primarily from among the representatives of various minorities - Kurds and Christians, many of whom in their quest to avoid hanging over them deadly threat rushed toward the Iraq-Syrian border in the hope of finding refuge in areas controlled by Kurdish militias.

Thousands of people have fled Iraq's second city of Mosul after it was overrun by ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) militants. Many have been temporarily housed at various IDP (internally displaced persons) camps around the region including the area close to Erbil, as they hope to enter the safety of the nearby Kurdish region.
