Hundreds were killed across Egypt today as security forces stormed the two protest camps in Cairo filled with supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi. Violence erupted in streets throughout the capital city and the country. A one month state of emergency across the country was declared and the interim vice president resigned.

Protesters continued to show their support for ousted president Mohammed Morsi today in Cairo as Egypt's military-backed interim President Adli Mansour selected a vice president and prime minister. Massive demonstrations that began over a week ago marking Morsi's first year of power led to fighting between pro- and anti-Morsi forces, and some 50 pro-Morsi Muslim Brotherhood protesters were killed outside Republican Guard headquarters. Protests return to Tahrir Square การประท้วงในอิยิปต์

Protestors once again have massed in Egypt's Tahrir Square and around the country in opposition to their ruling leader. Yesterday a crowd of more than 200,000 gathered in growing opposition to President Mohamed Morsi's decree last Friday that granted him sweeping constitutional powers. Tahrir Square became the epicenter of the protests in early 2011 that led to the resignation of former president Hosni Mubarak. -- Lloyd Young

Egyptians gather in Tahrir Square to mark anniversary of uprising

A massive demonstration of Egyptians gathered in Tahrir Square in Cairo today to mark the anniversary of the uprising that eventually led to the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak. Political divides are still in force with liberals and Islamists differing on their visions for the future of the country. Mubarak is now on trial for complicity in the deaths of protesters. The uprising in Egypt last year was one of the initial protests of what is called the Arab Spring, which has included the slaying of Libyan leader Moammar Khadafy and the ongoing protests in Syria. -- Lloyd Young (31 photos total)
